William Silva, age 78 of Taunton, passed away on June 14, 2022 at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital with his wife and son by his side after a long fought battle with Scleroderma.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Cabral) Silva, he served in the Portuguese Air Force stationed in Terceira Island, Azores as a plane mechanic. Bill found the love of his life and moved to the United States in 1967.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of Maria “Susie” (Pinto) Silva of which he was married and spent his life for 54 years. They made their home in Taunton.
Bill attended Roger Williams University in the evenings while working and obtained his degree. Mr. Silva was employed with Texas Instruments in Attleboro as an electrical engineer for more than 35 years.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his loving son Michael Silva and his wife Julianne of Plainville. He was the proud grandfather of Jason and Emily Silva of Plainville. Bill was the brother of Ana Reis and her husband Duarte and a sister in law Leonor Silva, all of Sao Miguel, Azores, an aunt Yvonne Ferreira of Marco Island, Florida and brother in law Joseph Pinto and his wife Shirley of Falmouth. Mr. Silva was the brother of the late Luciano and Antonio Silva. Bill is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Bill enjoyed golfing and was a long time member of Segregansett Country Club. He also was involved with amateur radio, photography, cooking, making wine with family, and traveling with his wife. Bill was always up for a challenge to fix things and make them work.
His greatest joy was spending time with family. Bill took pride in following his son in his early years during golf tournaments and most recently for the last 14 years, spending time and watching his grandchildren compete on athletic fields and perform in school events.
