TAUNTON- Antonio J. “Tony” Travassos, age 79, a longtime resident of Taunton, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, September 16, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. Tony was surrounded by his loving family including his wife, Maria (Calouro) Travassos.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Tony was one of four children born to the late Mariano and Maria (Funxinho) Travassos. After immigrating to the USA in 1969, Tony began his quest to fulfill the American dream. He married “his Maria” in 1972 and their love story began. In 51 years they never left each other's side, building their life together and fulfilling their dream of raising a family in America.
In addition to his beloved wife, Tony is survived by his two children, Nelly DeMoranville and her husband Calvin and Kenney Travassos and his wife MaryEllen; his 4 grandchildren and his siblings Mariano Travassos and Mary Camara, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Tony worked as a Lead Foreman at Dyecrafsman for many years. During his retirement, Tony enjoyed time in his garden, growing beautiful flowers and a variety of vegetables. He also enjoyed making birdhouses and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Tony is predeceased by his brother: Manuel Travassos.
Tony’s funeral will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Anthony Church School Street, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 20, from 5 to 7 pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
