TAUNTON- Ronald J. Costa, Sr., age 72, of Taunton, former longtime resident Middleboro, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the loving longtime companion to Sheila Carlsen of Taunton and former husband to Joan Costa of Taunton.
Born in Taunton, Ron was the only child born to the late Joseph Costa and Elsie (Marshall) Prado. He was raised in Taunton and attended Taunton High School.
A proud and patriotic man, Ron was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Ron was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Wanting to continue to work in the field of public service, Ron was employed as a Police Officer for the Town of Middleboro for thirty years. He was well respected by his fellow officers and the residents of Middleboro for his work ethic and being a good quality cop.
In his spare time, Ron loved to golf, cook and go out to eat. He was a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Middleboro Lodge, #1074. Above all, he cherished time spent and memories made with his family, friends, and many “cousins.”
Ron is survived by his proud children: Ronald J. Costa, Jr. and his husband Timothy Flamand of New Bedford and Christina Costa and her wife Penny Kanochel of Wareham; his step-son: Bruce Wombalt; and also many friends and extended family members.
Ron is predeceased by his step-father: Francis “Buddy” Prado.
