Robert J. Gerraughty, age 84 of Taunton, passed away on September 19, 2022 at Morton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire L. (Goss) Gerraughty who passed away in 2001 after 35 years of marriage.
Born in Dorchester, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Annabella (Manning) Gerraughty.
Sports were his passion. He played four sports at Roxbury Memorial High School in Roxbury where he was known as “The Duke of Dorchester”. He coached youth sports in West Bridgewater for 13 years. He also umpired, refereed and served as the baseball commissioner and on the board of directors.
He served in the US Army from 1961-1963 and four years Reserves. He retired from Frito Lay in 1993 when he and his wife moved to Chandler, AZ and lived there for seven years before returning to Massachusetts when his wife became ill. He was a loving and devoted husband and took great care of his wife during her illness.
He is survived by his son Robert F. Gerraughty and his wife Sandra, grandchildren; Madalyn Gerraughty, Matthew Gerraughty, Luke Gerraughty, siblings; Rita Wold, Claire Cotter, Frank “Sonny” Gerraughty and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Melissa Gerraughty and brother of the late Richard Gerraughty, Barbara Gould and Marie Gerraughty.
Funeral with visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 9:00am with a funeral home service to begin at 11:00 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton.
Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Canton.
