TAUNTON- Miguel dos Santos, 101, of Taunton, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his dear family at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the devoted husband for 69 wonderful years to his late wife, Deolinda (Da Piedade) dos Santos, who passed away on June 11, 2011.
Born in Lugar da Estrada, Portugal, Miguel was the second of six children born to the late Jose Miguel and Filomena (Fonseca) da Costa. He was raised and grew up in Portugal. In his younger years, Miguel was a competitive bike racer and he worked as a Baker, providing fresh and delicious bread for his community.
In 1956, Miguel made the decision to immigrate to North America to provide better opportunities for his family. He settled in British Columbia, Canada, where his wife and children would join him two years later. While in Canada, Miguel found work as a Tractor Trailer Mechanic, working for Freuhauf Trailers. In 1967, Miguel and his family relocated to Taunton, MA, where he was able to find a new employment opportunity with his same employer, continuing his job as a Mechanic.
He was a faithful parishioner of Annunciation of the Lord Church in Taunton.
In his spare time, Miguel liked to make homemade wine with grapes imported from California and maintain his housing properties. Above all, he was most happy when he was in the presence of and making memories with his treasured family, who were truly the focal point of his life.
Miguel is survived by his two cherished daughters, Maria DeVasconcellos and her husband Candido and Maria Elias and her husband Luis, both of Taunton; his loving six grandchildren, Manuel L. Franco, Elizabeth Terrill, Teresa Ford, Lisa Moynihan, Kristie Pelland, and Allison Elias; 13 great grandchildren, Monica, Ashley, Jillian, Vanessa, Michael, Mathew, Lillian, Mia, Liam, Olivia, Molly, Connor, and Cillian; his 7 great-great grandchildren; his brother: Jose da Costa and his wife Maria Jose; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his wife and parents, Miguel is preceded in passing by his siblings: Maria da Luz, Maria Sao Jose, Joao da Costa, and Mario da Costa.
His funeral with visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 8:30 am from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Annunciation of the Lord Church, 31 1st Street, Taunton.
Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his dear wife.
