Michael Rose of Dighton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 1, 2022. The son of the late Clinton and Adele Rose, he was a lifelong resident of Dighton, where he was very involved in his family business, the former Dighton Red & White Market on Main Street.
A graduate of Taunton Catholic schools including the former Monsignor Coyle High School, Michael was a proud alumnus of Providence College, where he earned a BS in Chemistry in 1971
Michael had a 50-year career as a chemist including at the former Ciba-Geigy corporation. He was most recently employed at FujiFilm.
An avid sports fan, Michael was a passionate season ticket holder to Providence College Friars Basketball. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed many years of skiing in and around Killington, Vermont. Other interests included Corvettes, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Michael was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Somerset. He formerly was very active in St. Peter’s Church in Dighton, serving on the Men’s Guild and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Michael is survived by his wife Nancy (Irace) Rose, as well as their four children; Kathleen Rose of East Providence, Michelle Gargasz and her husband Joseph of Warwick, Michael A. Rose of Providence, and Lauren Rose of Fall River. He is also survived by his two beloved grandsons, Theodore and Calvin Gargasz.
Michael’s funeral with visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 8:30 am from The Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Patrick Church, Somerset. Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
