Obituary

EAST TAUNTON- Michael Andrew Kosharek, 65, of East Taunton, passed away peacefully, on Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his dear family, at his home, after a valiant and courageous 7-year battle with cancer. He was the dear husband to the love of his life, Mary C. (Rappley) Kosharek, whom he married on September 16, 1978.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michael was the first of three children born to the late Howard H. Kosharek and Kathleen A. (Harrington) Mackin and her late husband Peter J. Mackin. Being raised in a military family, Michael resided in various parts of the United States.

When he was a young man Michael lived and worked in Wisconsin. It was there he would meet his future wife, Mary, with the two of them celebrating 45 years of marriage and raising two daughters together.

A hardworking man with a knack for design and construction knowledge, Michael worked for many years as a Draftsman for Karas & Karas Glass Company in Boston. Working alongside knowledgeable architects, Michael contributed his trade to many projects around Boston, including the Prudential and Hancock buildings.

In his spare time, Michael was an active member of the Friends of Bill W, where with the help of his own experience, he assisted many others in their journey. He enjoyed caring for his home’s lawn, ensuring it was well kept and in pristine condition. Michael liked to tinker around the house working on home improvement projects and he was also a skilled wood worker, making wooden sculptures from hand for his family and friends. He also liked to listen to music of all genres and take trips to Old Silver Beach in Falmouth. Above all, family was truly the essence of Michael’s life, where he cherished nothing more than spending time and making memories with his dear wife, daughters, and granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his two proud daughters: Amanda Burchell and her husband Robert and Kathleen Kosharek; his granddaughter: Jocelyn Ricker; his four siblings: Blaine Kosharek and his wife Diane, David Kosharek and his wife Elaine, Tillie Mann and her son Chris Vigliotti, and Peter Mackin, Jr. and his late wife Christine; his niece, Kelly Morrison; his beloved pets: Lily, Patsy, and Shelee; and also many extended family members and friends.

Michael’s funeral with visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Interment will follow at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton
