Mateus Lopes-Da Costa

TAUNTON- Mateus Soares Lopes-Da Costa, age 20, of Taunton, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his dear family. 

Born in Praia, Cape Verde, Mateus was the son of Ulysses Da Costa and Daniela (Mendes) Goncalves. He spent his younger years living in Cape Verde, before immigrating to the United States, settling in Taunton. Mateus attended Taunton Public Schools and graduated from Taunton High School with the Class of 2022.

Most recently, Mateus was furthering his education by attending courses to become a licensed plumber. 

In his spare time, Mateus enjoyed playing basketball, riding dirtbikes, cooking, and above all, spending time with and making memories with his dear family. 

In addition to his parents, Mateus is survived by his treasured siblings: Danilson Varela, Davilson, Goncalves, and Dayven Goncalves; his grandparents:Gabriela Tavares Jorge and Mateus Goncalves; and also numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Mateus’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Anthony Church, School Street.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 5th from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home. 

Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
