Maria F. (Moitoso) Bairos

Maria F. (Moitoso) Bairos, age 88 of Taunton, passed away on April 9, 2024 at her home with her loving daughters by her side.

She was the beloved wife of 57 years to the late Jose L. Bairos who passed in 2021.

Born in Faial, Azores, Maria was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Andrade) Moitoso. 

Maria migrated to the U.S. in 1961.  She served as a housekeeper at Stonehill College until her retirement in 2000.  She was previously employed for many years at Frank Noone Shoes in Taunton.

Maria found joy in taking frequent rides to the Cape Cod canal with her late husband and cherished her annual summer vacations with the entire family.   She loved making masa with her granddaughters, playing wiffle ball with her grandsons, enjoyed solving word searches and going out for lunch and enjoying cappuccinos. She was a pillar of strength throughout her life, and her grandchildren held her dear in their hearts.  She was always the happiest when spending time with her family.

Maria is survived by her loving daughters; Lina Medeiros and husband Michael of Taunton, Diane Carvalho and Larry Medeiros of East Freetown and Sandra Gerraughty and husband Robert of Berkley, grandmother of Emily, Ashlyn, Nicole, Hayden, Devon, Madalyn, Matthew and Luke.

She was the sister of Jose Eduardo Moitoso of Taunton, Laurenio Moitoso of Faial, Azores, Maria Conceicao Loura and Etalvina Aguiar both of Taunton. Maria was also the sister of the late Francisco Moitoso and the late Jose Dutra Moitoso.

Maria’s funeral with visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 9 am from The Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Saint Anthony’s Church, School Street, Taunton.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
