Karyl S. (Sottung) Murphy

Mrs. Karyl S. Murphy, age 93, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Mt. Carmel Extended Care surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 28, 1930, Karyl was a daughter of the late Augustus J. and Helen Hughes Sottung. She was educated in the local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Karyl's spirituality and faith was important to her and she was a longtime member of both St. Charles Church and the former St. Theresa's Church.
Karyl's favorite role in life was being a wonderful mother to her four children and a wonderful wife to her husband Donald F. Murphy. The two were married on September 20, 1952 and spent 35 years together before his passing in 1988.
As her children got older, Karyl began working as a Special Education aide for the Pittsfield Public Schools. She did this for many years and loved the students she worked with. She found retirement was not for her, so she began working as a dental office manager for Dr. Terrence Sinclair to keep busy.
As a mother, and later grandmother and great grandmother, Karyl was known as a Sports Mom. She was always her family's biggest fan. She was so proud of all their athletic achievements and never missed their games.
Karyl found a love of traveling as her children grew, especially visiting their homes across Massachusetts and Annapolis, MD. She also enjoyed her travels to Ireland and the countless visits to Cape Cod.
Karyl is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael and Sarah Murphy of Richmond, Kellie Woodall of Maryland, PJ and Meg Murphy of Westboro and Matthew Murphy and Amy of Taunton and her sister Marjorie Flynn of Pittsfield. She also leaves her grandchildren, Tim (Lauren), Kevin (Melodi), Ryan (Laura), Lane (Greg), Kyle (Bridget), Haley, Karly, Kasey, Margo, Kelsey and Joey, her greatgrandchildren, Shea, Lochlan, Easton, Ivy, Dalton, Finnegan, Emma, Samantha, Max and Dylan.
In addition to her husband, Karyl was predeceased by her brother Don Sottung.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10am in Saint Anthony Church 126 School Street, Taunton.

Relatives and friends may meet directly at church at 9:30am. Please use the rear parking lot and entrance to the church.
