Joseph G. Furtado, 87, husband of Florence Baptiste for 65 years. Joe was born to Mary (Tokarz) and George Furtado in Taunton, MA, September 20, 1934. Brother of Theresa Bowers (deceased). Graduated from Taunton High School in 1952. Served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Port Lyautey, French Morocco, from 1952 to 1954. He attended programs at Northeastern University and RISD; he was a part-time realtor for The Hutchinson Company and full-time machine draftsman at Texas Instruments, Inc., until his retirement in 1997.
He married Florence in 1956 and is survived by her and their two children, Cathy, and Joseph, Jr. , as well as grandchildren, Courtenay and Zachary Schwartz. Throughout his married life he developed a love for square dancing, round dancing and trailer camping with his wife; he treated his family to a built-in swimming pool to avoid Cape traffic, and enjoyed shooting – the breeze and as a member of the Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club. In his later years he became passionate about sailing with close friends and has now set forth on his final voyage passing away on Thursday, July 21st,2022.
Burial will be private, In lieu of flowers, spend time gazing at the sea and sparing a smile for Joe.
