Joseph Costa Obituary

Joseph Costa, loving husband of 48 years of Ana P. (Deocleciano) Costa of Berkley, passed away at home on February 20, 2024. He was 74. Born in Altares, Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel C. Costa and Guilhermina (Correia) Costa. He moved to the United States in 1969 and was employed with LeachGarner for several years.

A devout Catholic and communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton, he faithfully prayed his rosary each day and always assisted those in need. He found his greatest pride in his role as husband, father, and grandfather, cherishing every moment shared with his beloved family. An enthusiastic supporter of New England sports teams and the S.L. Benfica soccer team, he enjoyed watching their games and discussing their ups and downs. He also found joy in watching YouTube videos of his home country, especially those of culinary traditions, feasts, bullfights, and carnaval. His enduring smile, boundless love, and resilient, can-do spirit, despite the challenges of his long-term battle with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Joseph is survived by his cherished daughters; Christine Costa Leurini of Berkley and husband Sean and Melinda Andre of Assonet and husband Brandon; three loving granddaughters; Layla, Mia and Molly, two brothers; Herculano M. Costa of Taunton and wife Maria, Gabriel J. Costa of Taunton and wife Sara; a sister, Maria F. Pereira of Taunton and husband José; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph’s funeral with visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 8:30 am from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Anthony Church, School Street, Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, 6952 Clayborne Drive O’Fallon, MO 63368-6202 in Joseph’s memory would be deeply appreciated.
