John R. Silvia

John Roger Silvia, age 77 of Taunton, passed away at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, MA on September 20, 2022.

John was born in Taunton, the beloved son of the late John N. and Beatrice (Alves) Silvia. He graduated from Taunton High School in 1963 before entering the military.

Mr. Silvia proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during Vietnam from 1965-1968. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 611 in Taunton. Mr. Silvia was also a member of the Military Order of the Cootie of the United States.

He later obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the university in New Hampshire. Before retiring, John was employed as a insurance claim investigator.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities including skiing, fishing and riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. Among his other interests and talents, he enjoyed drawing, writing poetry and creating stories for his grandchildren. John most enjoyed quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Silvia is survived by his loving daughters; Myldred Silvia of Oregon, Dori Beasley and husband, Sean of Brockton and Kimberly Harrison and husband, Edmund of New Bedford, April Monteiro of Fall River. He was the proud grandfather of Giana, Leila, Blake, Elijah and Ava. He was also the brother of Diane Silvia and brother of the late Nancy Pina, Joann Pina and David Silvia. He is also survived by his best friend and long time companion, Jane Randall.

John’s funeral with visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 10am followed by a funeral service beginning at 11am in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Interment will follow with full military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
