George Edward Simmons, 90, husband of the late Janet (Barry) Simmons, died at home in Dighton on September 2, 2023. Born and educated in Dighton, he was the son of the late George Edward Simmons, Sr., and Elizabeth (Ault) Simmons Somerville.
George worked for the Foxboro Company before retiring in the 1980s.
George leaves behind three children: Julie A. (Patty) Simmons of Dorchester, Jennifer A. Simmons of Seekonk, and G. Nathan (Eileen) Simmons of CT; four grandchildren: Jessica A. (Andre) Simmons Rodrigues of CT, Jillian A. Simmons of NYC, Jenna A. Simmons of CT, Sean N. Simmons of CT, and one great-grandchild, Gannon Ricker of CT; as well as a slew of nieces and nephews whom he loved to pieces. George was predeceased by his siblings Marjorie (Simmons) Reed, Carolyn (Simmons) Booth, Carlton Simmons, Alma (Simmons) Barney Taylor, Gordon Simmons, and Libby (Simmons) Talbot.
George was a lucky man, and he knew it. He was born into a large and loving family, was happily married for 63 years to one of the Barry girls, raised three children who adored him, enjoyed seeing his four grandchildren grow up, and made friends everywhere.
