Gabriel Joseph Fontes, age 75, a longtime resident of Berkley, MA passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Reservoir Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Marlborough, after a courageous and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Taunton to the late Gabriel and Maria (Gouveia) Fontes, he was raised and educated in Berkley.
Shortly after graduating from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, Gabriel enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He served for three years in the Army, and upon his honorable discharge, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Sharpshooter (Rifle).
A hard working man and before the wide use of technology, Gabriel worked in Computer Science at General Radio Company (GenRad) in Concord, MA prior to his retirement in 1989.
In his spare time, Gabriel enjoyed tinkering with computers, cheering for the New England Patriots, and playing with his great-nephews.
Gabriel is survived by his niece: Heather (Keeler) Barrows of Taunton; his nephew: Barden Keeler and his family of Raleigh, NC; his great nephew: Keith Borden and his partner Brittani of Brockton; his 3 great-great nephews: Jaden, Kayden and Darrien; and also several cousins and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Gabriel is predeceased by his sister: Joanne Cambra.
Private services will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, where Gabriel will be laid to rest with his parents and sister.
