It is with great sadness that the family of Emily L. (Henriques) Pacheco, 90, of Taunton, share the news of her passing. Emily passed away peacefully surrounded in love by her family on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Longmeadow of Taunton following complications of a stroke.
Emily was the beloved wife of the late Richard Pacheco who passed in 2019 and with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
Born in Danbury, CT, Emily was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Emily (Carreiro) Henriques. She was educated in Danbury and moved to Taunton at the age of 15 where she completed her high school education graduating from Taunton High School in 1949.
Before her retirement, Emily succeeded in many facets of employment, but, none that made her more proud than her position as Admitting Department Manager at Morton Hospital where she was employed for more than 25 years.
Emily enjoyed many hobbies which included a zest for traveling and always had a bag packed ready for the next great adventure. She was an accomplished floral designer, enjoyed square dancing, making and collecting porcelain dolls, crafting of all kinds, and painting rocks with her beloved grandchildren.
Emily volunteered her time and talents to local charity boards including the American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts of America, Cub Scouts of America and Hospice Care of Greater Taunton. She was very involved in organizing many student activities while her children attended school at St. Anthony’s in Taunton. Emily was a member of the St. Anthony Holy Rosary Sodality and was presented with the Marian Medal in 1986. She was also a member of The Morton Hospital Retirees, Quota Club of Taunton, National Admitting Officers Organization, the Taunton Democratic City Committee, and “The Sunshine Club” which is a lively and fun-filled group of Emily and Rick’s friends established in their high school years-friends forever.
Emily is survived by her two devoted children; a son, Senator Marc R. Pacheco, and his wife, Barbara, of Taunton and a daughter, Linda M. Silva, and her husband, Jim, also of Taunton; three beloved grandchildren, Lauren E. Silva Lavigne, and her husband Evan of Taunton, Kara A. Silva, and her fiancée Nicholas Estrela of Easton, and Jonathan J. Silva, of Taunton; two loving sister-in-laws, Agnes and Mary Pacheco of Taunton, and special niece and nephews and their spouses, Jennifer Owen (Rick), of Maryland, Christopher Jarrin (Sequoia), of New Mexico, Dr. Gregory Jarrin (Vanessa), of Arizona, and Keith Jarrin (Linda) of Texas.
Volunteerism and the philosophy of always dedicating yourself to giving back to your community was of utmost importance to Emily. She was intelligent, accomplished, kind and generous. She was spirited and always held others to the same high standards that she set for herself. Emily subscribed to the simple ideology of living a great life-faith, family, friends-in that order-and she passed along those values by her example to all that knew her. A life well lived. She will be sorely missed.
Emily’s family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the entire staff of “angels” at Longmeadow of Taunton for the excellent care, compassion and kindness shown to Emily and to our family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Emily’s memory to Longmeadow of Taunton, Patient Activity Fund, 68 Dean Street, Taunton, MA.
