Arthur DeLawrence Obituary

Arthur “Artie” DeLawrence, age 87 of Taunton, passed away at Country Garden Health and Rehabilitation in Swansea, MA on September 26, 2022 after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born in Rehoboth, MA he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Perry) DeLawrence.

Artie proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

After the service he briefly worked with his brother’s company B & L Excavating in Berkley. He then spent most of his career as a truck driver for Waste Management. In later years, before his full retirement he was employed with Bristol County Saving Bank as a courier.

In his younger years he was proud to work for his family’s business, DeLawrence Turkey Farm on Talbot Ave in Taunton.

Artie enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, classic cars and especially weekends at Seekonk Speedway where he owned his own race car that was driven by Tony Rose.

Artie was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan who rarely missed a game. He had so many artistic talents, whether it was painting murals on windows, drawing, making mosaic pieces or taking pictures of nature. He loved spending time outdoors gardening, canoeing and most of all fishing any chance he got. His favorite place to fish was on Cape Cod Canal early mornings with his daughter Chrissy. He was a proud dad who never missed any dance classes, recitals, pageants, or school events for his daughter.

He was a man of few words but when he did have something to say he would make you belly laugh. His love of life, sense of humor, silliness and kindness toward others will always be remembered by the people who knew him. His daughter and grandchildren were truly the apple of his eye.

Artie is survived by his loving daughter Chrissy (DeLawrence) Quintal and her husband Larry of Taunton, grandchildren; Tyler Heap, Allyson Heap, Emily Aponte and Kirstie Quintal, sisters; Jane Stigh and husband Moe, Diane Hood and a brother Walter DeLawrence, Sr. He is also survived by 10 nieces and 10 nephews which include Walter DeLawrence, Jr and a sister in law Betsy Scarbrough and husband Mark of Taunton. Arthur was also the brother of the late Johnny and Jimmy  DeLawrence, and was the uncle of the late Donna DeLawrence.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 11am, a funeral service with military honors to begin at 12noon in the chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square.) Taunton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Artie’s memory made to any organization to help with Parkinson’s disease would be deeply appreciated .
