Antone Mendes, Jr.

Antone Mendes, Jr., 97, of Dighton, passed away on April 22, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Lorraine K. (Rose) Mendes, who passed in 2021.

Born in Taunton, Antone was the son of the late Antone and Mary (DaSilva) Mendes, Sr.

Antone was a Veteran of Foreign War and served in the Navy during WW2. After the war, he met and married his sweetheart had 6 children, and the marriage lasted for 65 years, until his wife’s passing.

After marrying Tony & Lorraine moved West where he worked in the oil fields and then for the Denver post. before returning to his home in Taunton where he worked for Paragon Gear as a Machinist and at Morton Hospital.
Before retiring, Mr. Mendes was employed with Dynisco as a Machinist.

He enjoyed Family, racing cars at the Seekonk speedway in his younger days, and Boston Red Sox Baseball.
Mr. Mendes was a kind, loving and hardworking man.
Mr. Mendes is survived by his children, Antonette Burt, Randon Mendes, Gary Mendes, Holly Lebeau, Greg Mendes, and Mary Lawler; Son & Daughter in laws; Jeffrey Burt, Kara Mendes, Randy Lebeau, Amy Mendes & Tom Lawler; eighteen grandchildren, Tara Burt, Nicole Burt, Katie Burt, Brandon Mendes, Amanda Teixeira, Kristen Chickering, Cody Mendes, Emily Mendes, Sarah Mendes, Cloee Brandon, Randy Lebeau, Craig Lebeau, Antone M. Mendes, Kori Mendes, Danielle Miller, Avery Nolette, Andrea Lawler, and Emma Lawler; 15 great grandchildren & 4 great, great, grandchildren. as well as many nieces and nephews, Mr. Mendes was also the brother of the late Hilda Goldenberg, Gay Mendes, Charlie Mendes.

In addition to loving and encouraging his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, he was a loving support to his nieces and nephews, Pearl, Dawn and Lloyd Mendes.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 4 to 7 pm, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) 

Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Taunton with a funeral service at 10:00 am, in Dighton Community Church, 2036 Elm Street, Dighton followed by interment in Dighton Veterans Cemetery (located directly behind the church)
