Alfred G. Souza

Alfred G. Souza, age 93 of Taunton, passed away on August 7, 2023 at Morton Hospital just one day before his birthday.

Born in Taunton, MA  August 8th, 1929, the son of the late Francis Pontes deSouza and Manuel Gonsalves deSouza.

Educated in the Taunton School System. Alfred graduated from Walker Grammar School in 1943, Taunton High School in 1947.  He was an active member of the Taunton High History Club and The Cadets.

Proudly Served in the US Navy in 1951 and was discharged in 1953.

Al was employed at the Foxboro Company for 30 years from 1955 until he retired in 1985.  His last employment was with the Bristol County Registry of Deeds starting in 2007 until he retired at the age of 87 in 2016.  Al served on the City of Taunton Planning Board in the early 80’s.

Al was an active member of the Portuguese American Civic Club starting in 1947.  He served many years as President and loved bartending weddings and special occasions for members and their families.  He enjoyed playing pool and particularly card games with fellow members and was on the bowling league for many years.  In his younger days he was known to enjoy a good round of golf.

Survived by Shirley Souza, his wife of 64 years and son Steven Souza.  Additionally his immediate and extended family include his son in law Charles Peck, sister Adeline and her two children and two grandchildren, sister in law Lucy Souza and her four children and seven grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his brother Arthur Souza and his sister Mary Dube.

Private services were with the Silva Funeral Home of Taunton.

Interment was held in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
